My darlings here is your vocabulary lesson for the day. If you come to find learning new words addictive, I highly suggest you read a book by P.G. Wodehouse like the one above. He is a very witty writer and you will learn about the life of dandies like Mr. Bertie Wooster and Stilton Cheesewright, but you will also glean a bounty of knowledge from Wooster's butler Jeeves. Enjoy.

1. Sloe noun small, sour dark purple fruit

2. Demur verb raise doubts or show reluctance

3. Remuneration noun wages or salary

4. Souq noun a commercial quarter in an Arab or Berber city

5. Atelier noun an artist's studio or workroom

P.S. I just noticed that some person might misinterpret and be taken aback by the title of the book. This is one of Jeeves' catch phrases and he is an utter gentleman. xx

Word Wednesday.

I think it absolutely pertinent that we as Americans fully own our language. By this I mean we need to acquaint ourselves with as many words as possible because if we don't, who else will? So I am going to start doing a series of vocabulary lessons in the next few weeks, so be prepared to be a voracious word fiend! Also here are some pictures for inspiration of some really beautiful libraries around the world, enjoy!

Side note from August 2, 2011. It's funny how I said we should own *our* language when in fact most of these words I discovered through Hamish Bowles articles and he is clearly British, as all of these words are. Silly me.
