Question of the day, do you know what it is? That's right, Beirut! One of my very favorite indie bands was named for this city and it brings me great joy. The leader of the band, Zachary Condon, originally from New Mexico, can play a variety of instruments ranging from the accordion to the ukulele, the mandalin to the trumpet, and the list could continue for an eternity. His first album Gulag Orkestra debuted in 2006 and it features sounds of Polish folk music that are very dreamy and take you to another world, a "Scenic World" if you will.
Listen for yourself and be rooted in your new found appreciation for Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean.
